There was a girl in my village, her house is just adjacent to mine. While in Junior class, she got pregnant and dropped out of school, she couldn't finish her education. By now, probably, she's a mother of 2 or 3 just because she got into a relationship prematurely, at the wrong time. Am I saying that pregnancy or being in a relationship is bad? Not at all, but the timing.
I love the way NIV puts this portion of Bible, in Eccl. 3:1, "There is a time for everything and a season for everything under the sun". There's time for everything, a time to be alone and singly pursue your dreams and a time to be a relationship. And verse 11 of that same chapter says that when you do things at the right time, it's perfect, an ideal and rewarding.
When you eat an unripe mango or cashew fruit, it'll hurt you. Likewise an untimely or premature relationship.
Let's highlight some of these dangers...
1. BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP PREMATURELY CAN SHATTER YOUR VISIONS, DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS IN LIFE.
A girl very close to my family got pregnant after her Senior class and she couldn't further again as result.
Remember, I didn't say you shouldn't have friends, but it shouldn't be intimate. It causes distractions. There's a time you to singly and passionately pursue your dreams.
2. YOU CAN LOSS YOUR LIFE.
We've heard stories of people that lost their lives in the name of relationship.
We cannot forget Cynthia in a hurry. She left her studies traveled to another state to boyfriend she met on social media. She was found dead in a hotel room with some of her body parts missing.
Two gentle men or girls fighting over a man and women, one can hit the other badly leading to death.
I reada story of two undergraduates who died on the bed after having sex. What could've been prevented if the duo concentrates on their studies.
3. YOU'LL GET DRAINED.
Relationship is a responsibility. It tasks timely, mentally, emotionally and 'pocketly' etc.
The time and energy you should have used for something productive and rewarding you will use it and be asking have you eaten and how was your night.
4. DISTRACTION
When you are not yet ready for marriage and you are in a relationship, it's a great distraction to your aspirations, vision and dream in life.
When there is distraction, there will be lack of focus and lack of focus leads to unproductivity and inefficiency.
If you're not ready to get married in the next two, three four, five years etc., steer clear of intimate and serious relationships.
5. IT CAN AFFECT YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE
As a matter of fact, we Christians aren't supposed to date at all, we are to wait patiently, yet not passively, for God to bring His will to us.
It will affect your Christian life. You may not pray, study the Bible, serve God as before.
So, when is the appropriate time to be in a relationship?
1. When God makes it known to you that it is time like He did to Adam. Until He says it's not good for you to be alone. Till then, it is very good for you to be happily alone.
2. When Marriage Is In View.
The only solid and legitimate reason to be in a relationship is to get married. No other reason count.
So, if you are not ready for marriage, stay out of relationship and do something productive with your life.
