A long distance relationship is one that exists between two people who are not in the same physical location. The distance between both parties varies but the constant thing is that they are not close to each other because of the distance between their locations.
Some people thrive with long distance relationships, and would even choose it over a relationship with someone they have easy access to and their reasons vary.
Here are some issues with long distance relationships
1. Miscommunication

A long distance relationship in the 21st century exist mostly online, it survives on calls and text and chats. Every discussion is done without seeing the person. Communication is generally better when you can see the person because words are not enough when we talk we use our tone, body gestures and facial expressions to fully and properly convey the message.
For example, if I say “what is wrong with you” and add a question mark it could mean that I am genuinely concerned about your wellbeing and want to know what is wrong or it could mean that I am angry and asking a rhetorical question to imply that something is wrong with you. When you can’t see them and hear them there is a big chance that you would misunderstand their message.
2. Time

Maintaining a good relationship is generally time-consuming and requires a lot of effort. In a time where there is so much to be done and little time available, there may be an issue with creating time to spend online with your partner. If a person works in an official capacity, there’s little or no time to spend with your partner because during the day you are working and when you close from work, you need to rest and prepare for the next day. If they were in the same location as you, then they could come over and spend time with you after work or vice versa.
3. Loneliness

One of the major parts of being in a relationship is having someone in your life who makes you feel complete, one who makes you feel like you are not alone and the way that happens is that you can talk to them anything you have an issue or just feel alone. When you are down and just want to be with someone who would just hold you and be there for you. Or when you need a hug or other forms of physical intimacy.
There are times when you are going through something and all is you want is someone who would support you and not judge you for your actions. When you don’t have readily physical access to your partner, the one person you want, especially for someone who is very physical, life becomes lonely, you know what you want, you have someone who can give it to you, but then you can’t get it.
If you have ever had a successful long-distance relationship, tell us how you did it.
